What Are the Benefits of A PDO Thread Lift?
Not all people want or need invasive surgical choices to attain an elevated, revitalized aesthetic. For our Puyallup, WA patients who may be intent on tightening loose skin without getting surgery, a thread lift may be a wonderful treatment that can give you numerous advantages, such as:
- Minimally invasive while still effective procedure
- Outcomes that are longer-lasting than other nonsurgical anti-aging choices, such as injectable dermal fillers
- Collagen growth that provides vivacious results for years to come
- Confidence in your brand-new fresh appearance
What is a PDO Thread Lift?
A PDO thread lift treatment lifts and tightens sagging skin tissue by introducing polydioxanone (PDO) threads into the deeper layers of skin. Three effects to the skin are produced by this introduction:
- Skin Tightening – by contracting fat tissue
- Instant Skin Lifting – by mechanical effects
- Cellular Renewal – collagen stimulation and neovascularization improve skin texture, fine lines, and elasticity.
Is a PDO Thread Lift Right For Me?
Are you looking to improve the appearance of sagging skin? Would you prefer a nonsurgical solution? If so, a PDO thread lift treatment is right for you if you:
- Want to attain an immediate lift and are
- Willing to undergo some injections
- Are unwilling to tolerate a long downtime of facelift surgery
- Want to look refreshed and naturally lifted
What Areas Can Be Treated?
This treatment is very versatile and improves both skin sagging and texture. In particular, it benefits the cheeks and lower face but can be applied to almost any area of the face, including:
- Wrinkles around the mouth
- Jowls
- Undereye
- Cheeks
- Neck
- Nasolabial folds
- Eyebrows
- Jaw Line
- Naso-jugal folds
- Crow’s feet (wrinkles around the eyes)
Each treatment is designed to meet your goals of skin lifting, rejuvenation, volumizing, even reducing fat or a combination. Your lifestyle needs (e.g. amount of downtime, swelling) are also a consideration in creating the correct treatment for you.
What Should I Expect?
You will experience an immediate lift to the treated area. It will take about one week for the final result which may be a bit looser than the day of the procedure. There is little downtime, but mild swelling and soreness are normal after the procedure.
As with other injection treatments, alcohol, supplements (such as Omega Fish oils, Vitamin E ) and some Chinese medicines (ginkgo) should be avoided 1 – 2 days before and after treatment. Do not participate in heavy exercise, steam rooms, saunas as well. Dental treatment (excessive opening and closing of the mouth) should be avoided for two weeks following treatment.
To help the swelling subside and avoid putting pressure on your face it is recommended that you sleep on your back. Such pressure might cause misalignment of the threads. If you have concerns discuss taping the threads after the procedure.
1 – 2 months after the procedure, you will notice better skin texture with firmer and smoother skin. Each procedure is tailored to the patient and their goals whether they be skin lifting, rejuvenation, or both.
For long-lasting results (up to 3 years), it is recommended that a repeat procedure be performed 6 – 9 months after the first procedure.
How Invasive is the Procedure?
This is a minimally invasive procedure using numbing and infusion of local anesthesia with minimal discomfort. Needles are used to insert the threads into various layers of the skin, becoming an anchor that lifts the skin upwards. The standard time for a procedure is 15 – 20 minutes and the threads self-dissolve in about 6 months.
Is it Safe?
This treatment is extremely safe. Since threads are inserted with needles instead of surgery and are absorbed instead of removed, side effects associated with other procedures, such as infection and thread breakage, are minimized. As with any procedure, your doctor’s training is extremely important in ensuring a good outcome.
Side Effects That Are Commonly Found:
- Bruising (may or may not occur)
- Swelling (3 – 5 days)
- Soreness (3 – 5 days)
- Tightness (mild – up to two weeks)
- Mild dimpling of skin (may or may not occur – resolves in a few days)
Rare But Serious Side Effects
- Infection
- Nerve Damage
- Nodules
- Salivary Duct Damage
Most side effects are manageable and may require the removal of threads.
An important and critical part of determining the right treatment for you is to discuss your concerns about the treatment.
